Tuvalu is a small Polynesian island country. It is one of the Commonwealth realms – members of the Commonwealth of Nations that have Queen Elizabeth II as the reigning constitutional monarch. Like some other realms, Tuvalu celebrates the Queen's Official Birthday. Here it is observed on the second Saturday in June.
The Queen's Official Birthday is celebrated in most Commonwealth countries. In the United Kingdom, the sovereign's birthday is officially celebrated on the first, second, or third Saturday in June, although Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21. Other Commonwealth realms may celebrated it on other days.
June 11 is annual William Davis Miners' Memorial Day, that is also known as Miners' Memorial Day or Davis Day. The memorial day is observed annually by coal mining communities and people who recognized miners killed in the shafts in the Canadian province Nova Scotia.
On the second Saturday in June, knitting enthusiasts can get together and enjoy each other's company, as it is World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP Day). The first knit in public event was organized in 2005 by Danielle Landes.
