Global Wellness Day Date in the current year: June 13, 2026

Global Wellness Day Global Wellness Day (GWD) is an annual international wellness-focused event held on the second Saturday in June. Its main goal is to promote healthy living and overall physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

The term “wellness” has somewhat of a bad reputation due to its misuse by promoters of alternative medicine and pseudoscience. However, there is nothing negative about its true meaning, which is defined by the World Health Organization as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

It’s important to understand that wellness is neither universal nor static. Definitions of wellness vary across cultures, historical periods, and social contexts, reflecting different values, beliefs, and priorities. As societies evolve and new challenges emerge, perceptions of health and well-being continue to change. Currently, there are multiple slightly different concepts of wellness, most of which include the following aspects:

  • Holism: Our overall health and well-being result from the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit.
  • Balance: To achieve well-being, you must pay sufficient attention to all three dimensions.
  • Self-responsibility: You are responsible for your health, happiness, and the decisions that affect your well-being.
  • Being proactive: Wellness involves being proactive and making conscious choices that lead to a healthy life.

Global Wellness Day was launched in 2012 by Turkish wellness expert Belgin Aksoy. Her global wellness campaign encourages people to live healthier lives under the slogan “One day can change your whole life!” On the second Saturday in June, people are encouraged to pause and reflect on their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and take steps toward healthier living.

Global Wellness Day aims to help people understand that wellness is a lifestyle, not a week-long detox or a month-long healthy eating marathon that you do each year and then return to unhealthy habits. Wellness is a conscious choice you make every day. You can start by taking these seven simple steps outlined in the GWD manifesto to improve your life without making too much effort:

  • Walk for at least an hour a day
  • Drink more water
  • Minimize your use of plastic
  • Be conscious of what you eat
  • Do good deeds
  • Go to bed no later than 10 p.m.
  • Spend more time with your loved ones

Global Wellness Day began as a local celebration in Turkey but has since grown into an international social movement. Today, it is celebrated by millions of people in more than 170 countries. Every year, thousands of free Global Wellness Day activities and events are organized around the world, including talks, discussions, workshops, seminars, yoga sessions, runs, meditation sessions, digital detox gatherings, outdoor fitness activities, community cleanups, picnics, and more.

Global Wellness Day should not be confused with International Wellness Day. The latter is a United Nations international day held annually on April 15 that focuses on highlighting the role of wellness in improving quality of life and reducing healthcare costs.
