  • 1982 Died: Pierre Balmain, French fashion designer known for his elegance and sophistication. He founded leading post-war fashion house Balmain.
  • 1978 Born: Nicole Scherzinger, American singer, dancer, actress and television personality. She rose to fame as lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.
  • 1974 Isabel Perón was sworn in as the first female President of Argentina. She formally assumed the presidency on July 1, following the death of Juan Perón.
