Father's Day Date in the current year: June 16, 2024

Father's Day The third Sunday in June is Father's Day in most countries. This holiday was created to honor and celebrate the fatherhood in the USA, but the most countries followed American tradition.

Father's Day was created to complement Mother's Day, because both parents are responsible for raising a child. That is why fathers also need their own holiday.

Father's Day was created in the USA in the early 20th century. After Anna Jarvis succeeded in Mother's Day popularization, Sonora Smart Dodd began the promotion of Father's Day. The very first celebration was held in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. She honored her father, the Civil War veteran who rose his six children alone. Dodd suggested the celebration to be held on June 5, that was her father's birthday, but Central Methodist Episcopal Church, the supporter of the holiday, didn't have enough time to make all preparations done. The celebration was shifted to the third Sunday of June and the data was accepted.

Father's Day is a typical family celebration. Family gather to celebrate and honor the father figures in their lives. Greeting cards and different masculine presents are typical gifts for the day. Schools and children programs commonly organize activities to make gifts for Father's Day.
