4 Ideas for Celebrating Valentine's Day With Your Friends
A lot of people agree that Valentine's Day is the most romantic holiday of the year. However, it is hard to stay in a good mood when everyone is celebrating the romance in their lives and you don't have anyone to spend this day with. But is that really so? How about your friends? Here are 4 ideas for celebrating Valentine's Day with your friends.
Of course, Valentine's Day is first and foremost dedicated to romantic love. But it's not like there is a law that prohibits to celebrate it with people your care about, such as your friends. If you don't have a significant other, use the holiday to show your friends how much you appreciate them. Besides, your initiative will prevent your single friends from wallowing in self-pity. Here are some ides for a completely platonic Valentine's Day with your friends.
Movie night. Each year, a lot of movies are released on or around Valentine's Day, and not all of them are cheesy romances. For example, the 2016 film Deadpool was scheduled for release on February 12, and at some point it was marketed as a Valentine's Day romance film, although it definitely isn't one. What we're trying to say is that you don't have to watch romantic movies on Valentine's Day. You can watch the latest blockbuster, have a Star Wars marathon, or attend a midnight screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Dinner party. If you have single friends and coupled up friends who don't celebrate Valentine's Day, you can get them together at a dinner party. Throwing a dinner party for a large group of people is neither easy nor cheap, so make it a potluck event. You can make it a Valentine-themed party with deliberately tacky decorations or emphatically ignore the occasion and nickname the party “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”, it's up to you to decide.
Karaoke. Karaoke is a great way to simultaneously have fun and express your feelings, and we are sure your friends have lots of feelings, especially on Valentine's Day. So sing your hearts out! Sad heartbreak songs, angry breakup songs, cheesy romantic songs... all kinds of songs will be appropriate depending on your current mood and view of romance. Just be sure to end the evening with an optimistic song, such as “I Will Survive”.
Secret Valentine. You've probably heard of Secret Santa. It is a Christmas tradition in which members of a group are randomly assigned a person to whom they anonymously give a gift. Well, Secret Valentine is basically the same, the only thing that is different is the occasion. Some time before the holiday, gather your friends and draw each other's names from the hat. On Valentine's Day, throw a party/meet for dinner/go out for drinks and exchange gifts. By the way, gifts don't have to be romantic. Just choose something that will surely lighten up the recipient's mood. You can also agree on giving each other gag gifts, that will be fun.
