According to Urban Dictionary, jocks are “thick-but-amiable types that always do well socially” (that's the mildest definition). Most jocks are not the sharpest tool in the shed, but they do well in sports, are popular, and get all the girls. What should you know about dating a jock?
They love sports. Like, really love. This means several things you should be aware of. Firstly, they are in great shape. If you're into muscular guys with six-pack abs, you're one lucky girl. This also means they have stamina, so the sex is going to be great... if they are not too tired after the training.
Secondly, they spend a lot of time training, so you must be ready to wait until your boyfriend gets out of the gym/field to go on a date with you. “Sports before hoes” or something like that. Sport is their main interest, and anything else is second best, including dating. Just deal with the fact that you will never become the most important thing in your boyfriend’s life.
Thirdly, you will have to go to all your boyfriend's games and cheer him on. Because that's what good girlfriends do. At least you can ask him to explain the rules. Be sure, he will be happy to. Just try not to zone out during his animated explanation.
Dumb jocks are a total cliché. Most jocks put more efforts into sports than academics, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are dumb. They just set their priorities straight. However, they are not likely to maintain a conversation about indie cinema, French impressionists or 19th century Russian literature.
Many jocks are surprisingly sweet. Cavemen that know nothing about romance are a total cliché, too. Many jocks are sweet in a slightly awkward yet charming way. They are not good at big romantic gestures, but if they really like you, they will try hard.
They are popular. If you are dating a jock, prepare to hang out with the popular crowd and be in the spotlight. Some people will hate you. Some people will try to befriend you to get closer to your boyfriend's hot friends or get invited to parties. Moving up the social ladder has its pros and cons, and it's up to you to decide whether you like or at least can tolerate being one of the cool kids.
Not all jocks are the same. Actually, this applies to nerds, geeks, hipsters, bad boys... They can be dumb and smart, rude and sweet, abusive and caring, mean and nice. You're dating a guy, not a label, and it is his personality that matters. It is not important whether he is a jock or a nerd if he likes you and cares for you.
