5 Tips for Your Summer Skincare Routine

5 Tips for Your Summer Skincare RoutineEveryone knows that skin needs more sun protection in summer. But stocking up on products with SPF (and actually using them) isn’t the only thing you should change about your skincare regimen during the warmer months. Here are 5 tips for your summer skincare routine that will help you keep your skin fresh and glowing even in hot weather.

Tip #1: Lighten Your Skincare Routine as Much as Possible

When the weather is hot and dry, heavy skincare products can make your skin look and feel greasy, as well as lead to clogged pores and inflammation (especially if you have oily skin). To lighten things up, swap your cream or oil cleanser for a foaming alternative, and switch to a lightweight moisturizer. Some people find aloe vera gel the best moisturizer for the summer season. If you are one of them, don’t forget to apply sunscreen as well.

Tip #2: Be Careful With Chemical Peels

Summer isn’t the best time for chemical exfoliation because acids and enzymes make our skin more vulnerable to sunlight. Chemical peel treatments can be carried out in summer, but you should take some precautions: don’t go for a deep peel; stay away from direct sunlight while your skin peels; go an extra mile to protect your skin from UV radiation after the treatment. If your skin tends to be very sensitive, it’s better to avoid chemical peels in summer.

Tip #3: ...And With Serums, Too!

Generally, serums are a great addition to your skincare regimen because they are lightweight and rich in active ingredients. However, some of these ingredients, such as retinoids and AHAs, are too hardcore for the summer months. Give your skin a break and lay off of serums with stronger active ingredients.

Tip #4: Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment with DIY Face Masks

Summer is the season of fresh fruit and vegetables that are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, fruit acids, and other substances that are good for your skin. It would be such a shame to waste an affordable opportunity to pamper your skin! If you’ve been thinking about including DIY face masks in your skincare regimen, summer is the perfect time to do it.

Tip #5: The Last, but Not the Least: SPF!

We’ve already mentioned it a couple of times, but it never hurts to remind about the importance of sun protection in summer. Beauty products with SPF are a must. Period.
