4 Destination Ideas for Your First Vacation as a Couple

4 Destination Ideas for Your First Vacation as a CoupleYour first vacation as a couple is one of the important relationship milestones that can either bring you closer or tear you apart. And before you can relax and have a good time together, there is a lot of stressful planning. The first thing you need to do is choose your destination. Here are 4 destination ideas for your first vacation together.

Play tourist in your own town. If you haven’t been dating long and the idea of spending several days together somewhere you can’t escape from is still scary, don’t go anywhere. Visiting the tourist sites in your own city can be so much fun! Besides, it is a great option when you’re short on time and money. And if you start getting tired of each other, you can just go home. Note: to make it feel like a real vacation instead of a prolonged date, check into a hotel or hostel.

Go all-inclusive. Money issues in a relationship are sensitive, especially for new couples. It is strongly recommended that you split the cost of your first vacation together. If you want to avoid possible arguments over the cost of accommodations, dinners and drinks, opt for a vacation at an all-inclusive resort or a cruise. You pay for everything in advance and don’t have to worry about the money for the rest of your vacation.

Go to Disneyland or Comic Con. If you would rather have a fun and light-hearted vacation than an overly romantic one, geek out! Doing silly things together will bring you closer. It might be a bit too early for couples cosplay, but if your first Comic Con together goes well, you can start preparing for the next one as soon as you return home! Of course, you should choose this kind of vacation only if you both enjoy all things geeky. By the way, this is true for any destination: a first vacation as a couple is no place for compromise. You need to pick a destination you’ll both enjoy.

Try a road trip. A road trip as your first couples vacation has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it allows you to keep your schedule flexible. You won’t freak out if something doesn’t go as planned. On the other hand, you get stuck in an enclosed space (i.e. your car) for hours. What if you start driving each other insane? We recommend that you don’t go very far, just get out of your home town and explore. You will probably enjoy a road trip more if you’d been friends before you started dating and are comfortable enough around each other.

Whichever option you choose, keep it simple. Traveling makes us leave our comfort zone which can bring out the best and worst in us. A first vacation together is your chance to get used to each other’s quirks, daily rituals and your ability (or inability) to be flexible and solve unexpected problems. Keeping your vacation plans simple will relieve some pressure and stress, giving you an opportunity to actually enjoy the trip and each other’s company.
