4 Tips for Taking Care of Your Lips During Quarantine
Lockdown has made many people’s personal care routine more relaxed for a number of reasons: some people are feeling too stressed or exhausted to stick to a proper routine, while others think that some of the steps are unnecessary in this “new world”. For example, why bother taking care of your lips when no one can see them under your mask? Well, this is sad and just wrong. You do need to take care of your lips during quarantine to keep them soft, smooth and hydrated.
Lip Balm Is a Must, Even During Quarantine
You may not need your lipstick and lip gloss as much as you used to before the whole pandemic thing, bur you need to invest in a good lip balm to keep the skin of your lips hydrated and protected from the environment. Opt for a product with natural moisturizing (carrier oils) and occlusive (beeswax) ingredients that will prevent your lips from getting dry and make them super soft and smooth.
What you do not necessarily need right now is UV protection, as long as you stay at home most of the time and wear a mask whenever you go outside. However, if you leave your house without wearing a mask, you need a lip balm with SPF.

Try Tinted Lip Balm to Make Yourself Feel Good
The fact that you don’t need lip makeup doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wear it. If it makes you feel good about yourself, go for it because right now you need every ounce of comfort you can find. Applying your most expensive lipstick may be a little too much though. Tinted lip balms, on the other hand, are a great product for your quarantine at-home makeup; they will both take care of your lips and give them a burst of color that will lift your spirits.

If Your Lips Are Flaky, Consider Exfoliating Them
If your lips have got dry and flaky, you should consider exfoliating them to eliminate dry, dead skin cells that have built up. However, there are a few things you should know before trying to exfoliate your lips.
First of all, you should buy a special lip scrub for this purpose. Your regular face scrub may be too harsh for your lips, besides, it may contain ingredients that you really shouldn’t ingest. Lip scrubs are formulated with small and gentle exfoliating particles that don’t damage the sensitive skin of the lips. They also contain more nourishing and moisturizing ingredients than face scrubs, since your lips lack glands that produce skin oil. If you can’t buy a special scrub, you can try massaging your lips with a dry, soft toothbrush.
You should also be careful not to overexfoliate your lips, because it will make them even drier. Once a week is enough to keep your lips smooth. Always apply lip balm after washing off lip scrub to prevent irritation and dehydration.

Make Sure You Wash Your Mask Thoroughly
If you prefer reusable fabric masks, make sure to wash and iron them in between uses. When you’re wearing a mask, the moisture from your breath accumulates under it, creating the perfect environment for various kinds of bacteria. It isn’t particularly dangerous if you change your mask every four hours and wash it thoroughly, but if you don’t do this, these bacteria can penetrate the microcracks in your lips, causing severe inflammation.
