Knowledge Day Date in the current year: September 1, 2024

Knowledge Day Knowledge Day is an iconic cultural holiday in many post-Soviet countries. This holiday is observed on September 1, marking the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year.

Knowledge Day was established in 1984 in the Soviet Union. This holiday has a significant meaning for all children, that go to school for the first time. Well-dressed students, carrying the bunches of flowers, come to school to start learning new sciences.

This day is important for students of all grades and it's celebrated also at the universities. Traditional celebration of Knowledge Day is almost the same at schools and universities. At school a small girl sitting on the shoulder of a senior student rings the bell, that symbolized the first bell of the year of schooling.

Principals of schools and universities traditionally deliver speeches, encouraging students for new achievements. After the speeches the students go to their classrooms and the first lessons of a new year of schooling begin.
