Antimonopoly Service Employees Day in Tajikistan Date in the current year: January 11, 2025
Antimonopoly Service Employees Day is an official professional holiday added to Tajikistan’s calendar in 2024. Celebrated on January 11, it honors all employees of the Antimonopoly Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.Competition regulators, also known as antimonopoly authorities in some countries, play an important role in the national economy. They help maintain fair market competition and prevent a situation in which the market is controlled by a few large companies by ensuring that companies do not collude, inflate prices, or push out competitors.
This gives customers a choice of reasonably priced products and services while providing businesses with an incentive to grow and improve, rather than taking advantage of their position. Fair competition encourages companies to develop, implement new solutions, and improve the quality of their goods and services. This benefits both consumers and the country’s economy as a whole.
The Antimonopoly Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is the country’s state competition regulator. Its main function is to formulate and implement state policy to protect competition, as well as prevent and suppress monopolistic and anti-competitive activities, in accordance with the state law “On Competition Protection”.
The Antimonopoly Service is headed by a chairman who oversees management and is responsible for the organization’s performance. The service consists of a central office with various specialized departments and territorial bodies operating in different regions of the country.
The Antimonopoly Service prevents monopolization of the state economy, curbs anti-competitive behavior, and ensures equal treatment of all market participants by monitoring dominant companies and suppressing collusion between economic entities.
Another area of its work involves controlling economic concentration. The Antimonopoly Service reviews transactions involving the creation, reorganization, merger, or acquisition of companies that could significantly affect the competitive environment. Based on the results of the review, the Antimonopoly Service may approve the transaction, approve it with conditions, or prohibit it.
The Antimonopoly Service of Tajikistan also regulates the prices of essential goods and services. It monitors price fluctuations, approves price lists for paid services in certain areas, and addresses unjustified price increases. As part of its supervisory functions, the service conducts inspections, identifies antitrust legislation violations, issues orders to eliminate them, and holds violators accountable. Finally, the service considers appeals and complaints from citizens and businesses regarding unfair competition and restrictions on market access.
Given the important role of the Antimonopoly Service of Tajikistan in developing the national economy, it’s no surprise that its employees have their own professional holiday, which they have celebrated annually on January 11 since 2025. Like other professional holidays in Tajikistan, Antimonopoly Service Employees Day is not a non-working day, unless it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
