National Handmade Day Date in the current year: April 5, 2025

Whether it’s beauty products, baked goods, toys, jewelry or artwork, handmade gifts are created with dedication and skill. Some artisans preserve traditions passed down through generations, while others experiment with materials and techniques, transforming their craft into an art form, but all pour their passion into creating beautiful, unique works and delicious treats. From inspiration to completion, those who create handmade crafts find joy in their work and in sharing it with others.
For those who receive handmade gifts, these one-of-a-kind treasures bring joy as well. We savor baked goods, appreciate handcrafted jewelry and pottery, and admire the artistry in every stitch, carving, or carefully blended fragrance. Custom pieces, commissioned with a specific vision and purpose in mind, can carry even deeper meaning and become family heirlooms.
There is a wide range of products that can be found in handmade shops, both traditional brick and mortar stores and online. They include, but are not limited to, clothing and accessories, jewelry, home decor, personal care products and cosmetics, perfumes, scented candles, toys, artwork, greeting cards, household cleaning products, baked goods, candies, preserves, and more. Some craft stores cater to special clientele, such as vegans or those who prefer organic products.
National Handmade Day was created in 2018 by From Scratch Farm, a family business owned and operated by Amy Bierstedt that sells handmade home, bath, body, and skincare products: salves, soap bars, lip balms and scrubs, face masks, face mists, facial oils and toners, bath bombs, shampoo and conditioner bars, body scrubs and butters, all-purpose cleaners, laundry detergents, and more. The main goal of the holiday is to celebrate and support small businesses that sell handmade products.
How can you participate in National Handmade Day? If you make and sell handmade products, you can promote your business on social media using the hashtag #NationalHandmadeDay. You can also host a holiday giveaway or raffle – if you can afford it, of course. If making handmade items is just a hobby, share your creations on social media for others to admire.
If you're not a crafty person, you can join the celebration by shopping at a local craft store or buying some handmade gifts for your friends on Etsy, supporting indigenous arts and crafts, and giving a shout out to your favorite crafters and artisans on social media (don’t forget to use the hashtag #NationalHandmadeDay!).
National Handmade Day should not be confused with National DIY Day, which is celebrated on April 2 and sometimes falls on the same day. National DIY Day was created in 2016 by Craft Box Girls to raise awareness of the do-it-yourself movement and encourage people to do more things themselves, rather than leaving them to professionals.
