Environment Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: April 20, 2024

Environment Day in Ukraine On the third Saturday in April, Ukraine celebrates Environment Day. This annual ecological observance was established in 1999 by President Leonid Kuchma.

Ukrainian Day of Environment is an awareness day that focuses on spreading ecological knowledge, conserving objects that need protection, planting, cleaning water sources, and improving the environment.

This ecological observance is aimed at encouraging Ukrainians to take positive environmental action to protect the nature of their Motherland. Environment Day activities are organized at the national, regional, and local levels by government agencies, non-governmental organizations, enterprises, and community activists.

Events held on the occasion include tree planting, cleanups of recreational sites, educational activities at schools and kindergartens etc. Ukrainians are also encouraged to reduce energy use both at home and at work as well as the amount of waste they produce.

Along with the local Environment Day, Ukraine also observes World Environment Day that is held on June 5.
