World Environment Day Date in the current year: June 5, 2024

World Environment Day June 5 is World Environment Day. This observance was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, the first celebration took place in 1973.

Over 100 countries members of the UN participate in celebration of Wold Environment Day every year. Since 1973 the celebration is always hosted in different city and has a different theme. This gives an opportunity to involve as many people in celebration as possible and raise public awareness of environmental issues in different countries and in the world.

Celebration of World Environment Day gained media and celebrities' support, who endorse everyone to be part of it. United Nations Environment Program goodwill ambassadors encourage people to take actions for saving our planet.

World Environment Day lets everyone realize their role in caring for the Earth. Everyone's efforts, even efforts of children, are counted. For instance, Nepal encourages children to attend the afforestation programs. Children, who make major contribution for the environment, receive Governmental scholarship.
