Army Day in India January 15 is Army Day in India. This day is celebrated to remember Lieutenant General K. M. Cariappa, who took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.

The last commander of British in India was Sir Francis Butcher. Kodandera Madappa Cariappa took over his position in 1949 and became the first Commander-in-Chief of the democratic India.

Army Day is celebrated to pay homage and salute to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for protecting their country during wars. Different events are held to pay tribute to Indian martyrs. Military parades that include shows are organized and aim to indicate the new technologies and accomplishments in the Indian Army.

Main celebration is held in the capital of India, New Delhi, and at the headquarters of the Army Command. During the parade Indian soldiers exhibit tanks T-72, T-90, BrahMos, helicopters, Carrier Mortar Tracked vehicles etc. The celebration also includes the pledge service by Indian soldiers, who vow to maintain peace and integrity of the whole nation.
