Friend's Day Date in the current year: July 20, 2024

Friend's Day Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay celebrate Friend's Day every year on July 20. This holiday was initiated by Dr. Enrique Ernesto Febbraro.

Celebration of Friend's Day origins in Paraguay, where it was established in 1958. Other countries of Latin America also celebrate this day, but the date differ from nation to nation. July 20 became the most common date for celebration of Friend's Day in Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.

Dr. Enrique Ernesto Febbraro initiated celebration of Friend's Day in Argentina. He connected celebration of this holiday with the day, when the first man reached the Moon (July 20, 1969). However, after the death of prominent Argentinian cartoonist and writer Roberto Fontanarrosa on July 19, 2007, there was a proposal to move the holiday to July 19. The same year another proposal was made to move the date of the holiday to July 24, the birthday of Alexandre Dumas, French writer. These proposals were not accepted by the public and Friend's Day is still observed on July 20.
