4 Homemade Salt Face Scrub Recipes

Salt is one of the most commonly used abrasives in DIY skincare. Tiny salt crystals polish the skin and make it smoother. In addition, they provide the epidermis with the minerals that it needs to remain healthy. Sea salt and Himalayan salt work better because they are richer in minerals than regular table salt. Of course, you should only use very finely ground salt to prevent it from scratching your skin. Leave coarse salt for anti-cellulite body scrubs.

Salt Face Scrub for Glowing Skin

This is a basic salt scrub recipe. You’ll need sea salt that exfoliates the skin and provides it with minerals, carrier oil that helps keep the skin hydrated and maintains its natural lipid barrier, and honey that contains antioxidants and thus helps prevent premature skin aging.

Place 2 tbsp plus 1 tsp unrefined sea salt, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp olive, sweet almond or avocado oil in a small bowl. Mix well with a fork until thoroughly combined. Place in a small, clean container. To use, scoop some scrub out of the container and apply to slightly damp skin. Massage your face for 60–90 seconds, then rinse with warm water.

Cleansing Lemon & Salt Face Scrub for Blackheads

This scrub has strong blackhead-fighting and antibacterial properties. Lemon is rich in citric acid that helps dissolve dirt and grime on the surface of the skin, cleanses and tightens pores, regulates skin oil secretion, and lightens the skin. Salt exfoliates dead cells and fights off germs, preventing blackhead formation.

Combine 1 tbsp sea salt, ½ tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 tsp water in a small bowl. Apply the scrub to your face and massage lightly for 2 to 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then splash your face with some cold water to tighten your pores. Make sure not to use too much lemon juice to prevent irritation.

Himalayan Salt Face Scrub with Coconut Oil

Himalayan pink salt produces a detoxifying and mild abrasive effect, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth. In addition, this Himalayan-salt based scrub stimulates micro-circulation in the epidermis, unclogs blocked pores, and helps drain out excess fluids. Coconut oil contained in the product actively nourishes the skin and keeps it hydrated.

Place ½ cup fine Himalayan salt in a bowl. Slowly pour in ¼ cup liquid coconut oil and mix well with a spoon. Add 10 drops geranium essential oil for a nice smell and additional antibacterial properties. Transfer the scrub into a sterilized jar or container. To use, apply some scrub to damp skin, massage, let it sit for a minute, then rinse with warm water.

Tomato Salt Face Scrub

Inspired by Italian cuisine, this scrub combines salt, tomato, and olive oil. Olive oil moisturizes the skin and provides it with nutrients, while tomato helps retain skin elasticity. Instead of tomato, you can use any fruit or vegetable of your choice, as long as you’re not allergic to it. For example, kiwi helps unclog pores, strawberry improves complexion, cucumber soothes irritated skin, and pineapple has a strong clarifying effect.

Place 2 tbsp sea salt in a bowl. Add 1 tbsp olive oil and stir until combined. Scoop out the flesh from a small ripe tomato and add to the bowl. Stir again until combined. Transfer the scrub into a clean container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Apply like any other facial scrub.
