You can make hot chocolate with cream, milk and water. It depends on how the fat content of the beverage is important for you. Not everybody can drink hot chocolate with milk or cream, because it is a high-calorie drink. You can add water to milk and cream that will reduce its caloric value and make chocolate melting easier. Besides many hot chocolate lovers will admit that water mixed with milk or cream is the best for the beverage.

You can make hot chocolate only with water, without milk or cream, but such drink will be tasteless. You will have to use different flavorings such as spices, alcohol and fruit.

Egg yolks, sour cream and starch are also good products for hot chocolate. They make your beverage thicker.

Classic hot chocolate recipe

If you make hot chocolate for the first time, use classic recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3 oz dark chocolate
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1-2 tbs sugar

Heat milk until boiling. Melt sugar in hot milk and add chunks of chocolate one by one. Stir chocolate till it melts completely, pour the beverage into cups or glasses to serve.

Hot rum chocolate recipe

Chocolate and alcohol is a good combination, that gives new shades of taste.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 2 tbs dark rum
  • 9 oz dark chocolate

Pour milk, cream and rum into a saucepan. Heat milk till it boils. Remove the saucepan from fire and add chocolate chunks. Stir your chocolate till it melts completely, pour it into heated cups or glasses.

Try to add any fruit or berry liqueur, cognac, brandy, whiskey instead of rum.

Spicy hot chocolate recipe

Hot chocolate with pepper has a unique taste. You can't help liking this warm and spicy drink that leaves an interesting aftertaste.

Ingredients

  • 3 oz bittersweet chocolate
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbs sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • a small piece of red pepper
  • 4 cups milk

Add sugar, cinnamon and pepper to water. Boil this syrup on a high fire. It should become viscous and caramelize. Heat milk, melt chocolate chunks and stir till smooth. Strain the syrup and add to milk and chocolate. Strain your drink again and serve.

Vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, orange peel, nutmeg are good with chocolate.

Ice cream hot chocolate recipe

Combination of hot and cold is the most unusual one. Ice cream will make your hot chocolate gentle and tasty.

Ingredients

  • 1-3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1-1/2 oz dark chocolate
  • vanilla extract
  • ice cream

Pour milk into saucepan, add sugar and some vanilla extract. Boil milk, stirring it to avoid forming of skin. Melt chocolate chunks in milk. Pour your drink into cups, put some ice cream on top and serve at once.
