This is probably the most popular DIY hair rinse. Although apple cider vinegar has quite a strong smell, the benefits of ACV hair rinse outweigh this minor inconvenience. It helps remove product buildup from the hair, balances the scalp, and makes the hair super shiny. To make this hair rinse, simply dilute 2–4 tbsp apple cider vinegar with 2 cups water. Use this hair rinse once or twice a month to keep your hair smooth and shiny.

Ayurvedic Hair Rinse

If you’re a fan of traditional Ayurveda medicine, try this amazing hair rinse for hair growth. It prevents dandruff and frizz, strengthens hair roots, prevents breakage and split ends. Boil 2 cups water and add 1 tsp shikakai powder, 1 tsp reetha powder, and 1 tsp amla powder. Keep the solution boiling for about 15 minutes; remove from heat, let the rinse cool and strain it. Use the rinse every time your wash your hair. Please, keep in mind that amla can stain blonde hair.

Rosemary & Thyme Hair Rinse

Rosemary and thyme have been used for centuries both for culinary purposes and as medicinal herbs. Due to their antiseptic properties, they will help keep your scalp clean and healthy. To make a rosemary and thyme hair rinse, place 1 tbsp fresh rosemary leaves and 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves (or half the amount of dried leaves of each kind) in a heatproof bowl and pour 2 cups boiling water over the leaves. Let them steep until cool, then strain the liquid and pour it into a bottle for further use.

Tea / Coffee Hair Rinse

Tea and coffee are full of antioxidants that are good for the hair. They act as a natural hair conditioner and increase shine. However, they also stain hair, so black tea and coffee hair rinses are only suitable for brunettes. So if you’re dark-haired, go for it! Brew a cup of strong coffee or tea, let it cool to room temperature, dilute with water, and use the solution to rinse your hair after shampooing.

Lemon Juice Hair Rinse

This hair rinse, on the other hand, is perfect for blonde women because lemon juice has lightening properties. It helps control oil production in the scalp and keeps the hair feeling fresh and clean for longer. Mix ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (you’ll need to juice 3 or 4 lemons to get it) with 2 cups warm water. Pour the mixture over your head after shampooing, then rinse your hair with running water.

Rice Water Hair Rinse

For centuries, Asian women have used rice water to wash their face and rinse their hair. Rice water makes the hair more manageable, tames frizz, and prevents breakage and split ends. The greatest thing about rice water hair rinse is that it’s basically a by-product of rice cooking! To make it, boil 3 tsp rice in 1 cup water until cooked. Strain the water, let it cool and pour it over your hair after shampooing. Leave the rice water on your hair for 10 minutes, then condition as usual.
