How to Make Your Own Hair Serums

How to Make Your Own Hair SerumsA hair serum is a leave-in product that coats the surface of your hair and makes it smoother and shinier, tames frizz and unruly strands, prevents split ends and protects your tresses from the environment. Most hair serums are silicone-based, but it’s possible to make your own hair serums using natural oils. They’re greasier than silicone-based products, but they should work just fine for dry, damaged, and brittle hair.

Hair Serum for Frizzy Hair

This DIY hair serum is designed to control frizz and give your hair a nice shine. Thanks to containing coconut oil that is rich in saturated fatty acids, it also moisturizes the hair and improves its structure.

Mix 2 tbsp of avocado oil, 1 tbsp of melted coconut oil, 1 tbsp of jojoba oil and a few drops of lavender oil (or another essential oil of your choice) in a dark glass vial, shake well. Voila, your serum is ready! To tame frizz, rub several drops of serum between your palms and apply to clean hair.

Hair Serum for Curly Hair

Curly hair tends to stay dry despite all the moisturizing stuff you put on it. If you feel like your curly hair needs some extra TLC, try this serum made with argan oil and jojoba oil. Argan oil is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, while jojoba oil is a liquid plant wax with great protective properties.

Mix 1 tbsp jojoba oil with the same amount of argan oil. Add 1 tsp castor oil, pomegranate seed oil or rose hip oil (optionally, for very dry hair), 5 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of rosemary oil. Pour the mixture into a glass dropper bottle, screw on the cap and shake well to combine all oils. To take care of your hair, drop some oil on your fingertips and run them through your freshly washed hair while it’s still damp.

Revitalizing Hair Serum

This is a very effective hair serum for dry, dull and brittle hair. It will make the hair stronger and healthier, boost its elasticity and flexibility, and give your hair a natural shine and bounce. Grapeseed oil is one of the lightest carrier oils, so the serum won’t weigh your hair down.

Pour 8 tbsp grapeseed oil into a glass bowl and add 12 drops of lavender essential oil. Take 2 capsules of vitamin E (an essential ingredient due to its antioxidant properties) and squeeze their contents into the bowl. Mix all ingredients together until well-blended and pour the serum into a dark glass bottle. Apply several drops to clean hair on a regular basis.

Hair Serum for Silky Hair

This homemade serum will make your hair soft and silky without weighing it down. It contains avocado oil that provides the hair with fatty acids, vitamins and protein, and castor oil that smooths and softens coarse hair, leaving it tame and silky.

Pour 1 tbsp avocado oil and 1 tbsp castor oil into a dark glass bottle, add 3 tbsp linseed oil and top with 25 drops of essential oil (for example, chamomile, lavender, lemon, myrrh, peppermint or rose). Shake well and apply several drops of serum to damp or dry hair.
