Ottawa Veg Fest

Ottawa Veg Fest
Ottawa Veg Fest, sometimes stylized as Ottawa VEG FEST, is a two-day vegetarian festival held each June in the capital of Canada. The first festival took place in 2009 and was organized by the National Capital Vegetarian Association.

Ottawa Veg Fest is designed for vegetarians, vegans and those who are interested in leading a vegetarian lifestyle but aren’t sure yet if it is going to work. The festival educates, entertains and demonstrates that a vegetarian or vegan diet can be just as diverse and delicious as a meat-laden one. It features an impressive selection of vendors, presentations and cooking demonstrations and provides a unique experience you are not going to get anywhere else.

Admission to the festival is by cash donation. Each attendee pays what he or she can afford. All proceedings go to support worthy causes. For example, in 2016 the funds were divided between the Community Harvest Program of the Ottawa Food Bank and the National Capital Vegetarian Association (NCVA). The Community Harvest Program buys local produce for clients served by the Food Bank. The NCVA raises public awareness of the benefits of plant-based diets for public health.

Ottawa Veg Fest features an impressive line-up of exhibitors. The majority of them are local companies, but some participants come from other parts of Ontario and from other provinces. The festival showcases a fine selection of products including raw vegan products and prepared food, flowers and herbs, fruit and vegetables, fair trade clothing, jewelry and accessories, all-natural cosmetics, and more. The exhibitors also include animal welfare organizations, cooking schools, restaurants, delivery services, and other companies and organizations that support and promote a healthy and cruelty free lifestyle.

The festival is also known for its excellent lectures and cooking demonstrations. The best speakers and chefs come to Ottawa to share their knowledge and experience.
