The Classics over the Volga Music Festival was founded in 2008 by local promoter and traveler Alexey Vozilov. The inaugural event featured musicians from various regions of Russia, as well as participants from other countries including Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Germany, and more.
In 2016, Vozilov decided to re-brand the event in order to distinguish it from other events with similar names that had emerged, such as Rock over the Volga, Bossa Nova over the Volga, Reading over the Volga, etc. Along with getting a new name, Tremolo, the festival expanded its program to include other music genres and forms of art, for example, drama and ballet.
The Tremolo Music and Arts Festival lasts for five days, attracting over 4,000 visitors every year. It features performers from different countries, giving emerging musicians (as a rule, conservatory students) a unique opportunity to perform on the same stage with world-renowned soloists and conductors.
Tremolo prides itself in annual collaborations between guest conductors and participating orchestras that perform at the gala concert. Past guest conductors at the festival have included Anatoly Levin (Russia), Vytautas Lukočius (Lithuania), Leo Krämer (Germany), Enkhbaatar Baatarzhavyn (Russia), and others.
Performances of symphonic orchestras and vocalists on an open-air stage overlooking the Zhiguli Mountains and the Volga are the main feature of Tremolo. Breathtaking scenery combined with beautiful stage design, summer breeze and the light whisper of the waves create an unforgettable experience for both long-time music lovers and those who are just beginning to discover the wonderful world of classical music.
