With a vineyard area of 367,000 acres and a production of almost 150,000 tons of wine (as of 2014), Moldova has a well-established wine industry. In 2014, it was the 20th largest wine-producing country in the world. To promote Moldovan wines internationally, several of the country’s leading private wineries established the Moldova Wine Guild.
The Wine Week in Moldova was launched in 1992 by Poliproject Exhibitions, a Moldovan company specializing in the organization of national and international exhibitions. In 2019, the event changed its format and was re-branded as WineWin, becoming a platform for all relevant solutions to help producers and sellers of alcoholic beverages minimize costs and increase sales. The project comprises several events, including a two-day forum for winemakers, Eurasia Wine & Spirits Competition, ExpoVin Moldova, and Tasting Room.
ExpoVin Moldova is the central event of WineWin. It is a specialized exhibition that covers all areas of modern viticulture and winemaking. Open only to industry professionals, the exhibition is a prime meeting point for wine producers, merchants, distributors, trademark owners, buyers, and sommeliers from all over Moldova and abroad. ExpoVin Moldova features over 70 exhibitors and more than 300 different wines and spirits, showcasing the best of Moldovan producers.
Another signature event of the Wine Week in Moldova is the Eurasia Wine & Spirits Competition. The contest is held under the auspices of the International Organization of Vine and Wine and in partnership with the Union of Oenologists of Moldova. The winners are chosen by an international jury comprising qualified tasters from 16 countries, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, wine journalists and bloggers.
All competitive samples are submitted for tasting at the Tasting Room throughout the entire duration of the event, where they can be sampled after the competition closes. Winners are announced and awarded at an evening gala event open only to participants and invited guests.
Despite its focus on the wine industry of Moldova, WineWin is an international event. Since its inception, it has featured participants and guests from Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, China, Canada, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, and other countries. It is the only large-scale B2B event in the Moldovan wine industry that has attracted over 114,000 professional visitors over more than two decades.
