The imm cologne is an abbreviation for “Internationale Möbelmesse” (international furniture exhibition). The inaugural exhibition was held in 1949 and the trade fair has been held annually ever since, typically in early or mid-January. The event is organized by the Association of the German Furniture Industry (Verband der Deutschen Möbelindustrie e.V) with the City of Cologne staging several events in conjunction with the imm cologne.
Alongside the Milan Furniture Fair (Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano), the imm cologne is regarded as a leading marketplace for the furniture industry and interior design. As it is the first event of its kind held during the year, it is especially popular among trendsetters. The exhibition is held at Koelnmesse GmbH (the Cologne Trade Fair ground) which is one of the largest exhibition centers in Germany. It generally lasts for 10 days, the first week is industry-only and during the last 3 days the event is open to the general public.
As we’ve already mentioned, the Cologne Furniture Fair is primarily dedicated to contemporary furniture and interior design, but it also showcases the latest in architectural lighting design as well as innovative materials. Its exhibitors and attendees include leading furniture designers, furniture manufacturers and retailers, interior designers, architects, and decision-making industry professionals. All products showcased at the trade fair are divided into several groups: Global Lifestyles, Prime, Comfort, Smart, Sleep, Pure, Pure Editions, Pure Textiles, Pure Talents, Pure Studios.
