Environment Protection Day in Belarus Date in the current year: June 5, 2024

Environment Protection Day in Belarus June 5 is Environment Protection Day in Belarus. This observance was established by Presidential Decree and its date coincides with observance of World Environment Day, established by the UN in 1972.

Environment protection is a very important issue in Belarus, as well as in other countries of the world. Authorities and citizens of Belarus are concerned about conservation of natural ecosystem and landscapes and improvement of environmental situation in the country.

Belarus boasts number of protected areas. Among them is Belovezhskaya Pushcha, which is the last and largest part of the immense primeval forest. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is protected as the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. Its area is 684 sq mi (1,771 sq km) and it's a habitat for European bison, a semi-wild horse konik, wild boar and Eurasian elk. Belovezhskaya Pushcha doesn't attract many foreign tourists due to the lack of facilities and little tourist stream in Belarus. Anyway, Belarusian government does everything possible to protect this area, that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve and EU Natura 2000 Special Area of Conservation.
