Family Literacy Day in Canada Date in the current year: January 27, 2024

Family Literacy Day in Canada Family Literacy Day is a nationwide Canadian event held every year on January 27. It was launched by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 in order to draw public attention to the importance of reading and engaging the whole family in learning activities.

ABC Life Literacy Canada is a nonprofit organization that inspires all Canadians to increase their literacy skills and the literacy skills of their children. The organization promotes simple events that would help achieve this goal. It also encourages parents to spend more time with their children because it is an easy and at the same time effective way to make them learn something new. 15 minutes a day would be enough to improve a child's literacy skills dramatically, but it wouldn't take up too much of the parents' time.

Every year, ABC Life Literacy Canada publishes helpful activity sheets that can be used on Family Literacy Day or any other day of the year. By the way, spending quality time with children also improves adults' literacy skills as well, so don't miss such a great and fun opportunity!
