Security Service Workers' Day Security Service Workers' Day is observed in the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Armenia and the Kyrgyz Republic on December 20. This professional day was “inherited” by these countries from the Soviet Union, where the same holiday was observed on December 20.

Originally this day was known as Chekist Day and it was established to celebrated the foundation anniversary of the Cheka, the Emergency Committee of the Soviet Union. The Cheka became the very first state security organization and later it developed in NKVD (the People's Commissariat for the Internal Affairs), OGPU (the State Political Directorate), KGB (the Committee of State Security). Later it became the national security service in all post-Soviet countries.

Traditionally celebration of Security Service Workers' Day is organized at the state level. Officials attend the solemn events, the award ceremonies for the distinguished employees are organized in the capitals of Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.
