Tax Service Employee’s Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: July 2, 2024

Tax Service Employee’s Day in Ukraine Tax Service Employee’s Day, celebrated on July 2, is one of the newest professional holidays in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky established it by his decree in July 2020. However, it is not the first professional holiday for tax service employees in the history of Ukraine.

The first ever professional holiday for the employees of the Ukrainian tax authorities was created in 2000, when the Main State Tax Office of Ukraine was transformed into the State Tax Administration of Ukraine. Tax Service Day was established by President Leonid Kuchma’s decree, “taking into account the important role of the state tax service in ensuring the implementation of the state tax policy and combating tax crimes and offenses”. It was celebrated annually on October 30.

In 2005, Tax Service Day was discontinued and replaced with the Day of the Employee of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, celebrated annually on July 2. However, in 2012, the State Tax Service of Ukraine ceased to exist due to merging with the State Customs Service to form the Ministry of Revenues and Duties of Ukraine.

In this regard, President Viktor Yanykovych, instead of Customs Service Day (June 25) and the Day of the Employee of the State Tax Service (July 2), created a new professional holiday named the Day of Tax and Customs Service Employees; its date was March 18. It was established in 2013 and observed every year from 2014 to 2020.

In December 2018, Ukraine pledged to the International Monetary Fund to split the State Fiscal Service (the successor of the Ministry of Revenues and Duties) into two separate entities, the State Tax Service and the State Customs Service, both reporting to the Minister of Finance. On March 6, 2019, the government of Ukraine approved the regulation on the new services. The Tax Service was registered as a legal entity on March 17 and began its work on August 21.

The main tasks of the State Tax Service of Ukraine are the implementation of the state tax policy, state policy on the administration of the unified social tax, and the state policy on preventing and combating tax offenses. Its activities are directed and coordinated by the Minister of Finance on behalf of the Ukrainian government.

After the division of the State Fiscal Service into the State Tax Service and the State Customs Service, the need arose to split the Day of Tax and Customs Service Employees into two separate professional holidays. In this regard, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed to decrees establishing two new professional holidays – Customs Officer’s Day, celebrated on June 25, and Tax Service Employee’s Day, celebrated on July 2.

Ukrainian Tax Service Employee’s Day was created in order to highlight the contribution of the employees of the State Tax Service to the implementation of the state tax policy. On this day, employees and veterans of the tax service accept congratulations on their professional holiday and gratitude for their professionalism, hard work and dedication from the authorities and high-ranking tax service officials.
