In 2009 President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko signed the presidential decree on establishment of this remembrance day. Since then annual commemorative ceremonies are held in every city of Ukraine. People lay flowers to the monuments and graves of the heroes of the war.

Liberation of Ukraine started in January 1943. Soviet troops consisting of Ukrainian soldiers liberated city by city. Finally the last city in the Carpathian Mountains, Uzhhorod, was liberated on October 27, 1944. The next day the Soviet troops crossed the modern border of Ukraine.

Celebration of Liberation of Ukraine from Nazi Invaders Day has a national significance fur Ukrainians. People honor the warriors who shed their blood for freedom and the veterans who survived the fights.
