Air Defense Forces Day was established by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on February 20, 1975. It aimed to recognize the contribution of air defense forces in the victory of World War II and promote its contribution to the protection of the state border during peacetime. April 11 was chosen as an original date for celebration. Five years later a new decree was issued moving the holiday on the second Sunday in April.
In 2006, the Russian Federation Air Defense Forces Day was officially established by Presidential Decree as a memorable day in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The date of the celebration remained the same similar to the times of the Soviet Union. The Military Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Republic of Belarus celebrate this holiday on the same day as well.Remind me with Google Calendar
