America Recycles Day Date in the current year: November 15, 2024

America Recycles Day America Recycles Day is annually celebrated on November 15. This is the only one nationally organized day dedicated to recycling and buying recycled products in the USA.

America Recycles Day was initiated by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997 and in 2009 it became a part of the national nonprofit program Keep America Beautiful. Celebration of this holiday raises public awareness about the importance of recycling for saving the environment and it also encourages Americans to sign personal pledges to recycle and buy recycled products.

The USA has no national law mandating recycling, that is why local governments often have to introduce their own requirements. For instance, a number of the states passed the laws on establishment of deposits or refund values on beverage containers. Mandatory recycling is a standard practice across all countries of the European Union since the 1990s, but alike laws exist only in some cities of the USA.

The USA can't boast the high levels of recycling, and celebration of America Recycles Day is one of the ways of improving this situation.
