Coastal Cleanup Day in Russia Date in the current year: June 2, 2024

Coastal Cleanup Day in Russia The first Sunday in June is Coastal Cleanup Day in Russia. This local observance is related to International Cleanup Day organized by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), the world's largest recreational diving membership and diver training organization.

International Cleanup Day is part of PADI Project AWARE aimed at protecting oceans. It is held annually on the third Sunday in September. On this day, thousands of volunteers throughout the world participate in the cleaning of oceans, lakes, rivers and shorelines.

Unfortunately, Russian climate does not allow to hold Cleanup Day in September because the weather is typically too cold to clean water and shorelines. So it was decided that Russia would hold its Coastal Cleanup Day on the first Sunday in June, when the weather is warm enough. The event is usually extended for an entire weekend.

Coastal Cleanup Day in Russia is coordinated by the local PADI diving society. The first event was held in 2003. More than 1500 volunteers participated in it.
