Arbor Day in Cambodia Date in the current year: July 9, 2024
The first celebration of Arbor Day took place in Cambodia in 1990. Since then His Majesty the King of Cambodia presides the ceremony of trees planting. The ceremony of tree planting is held every year in different provinces, thus the problem of environment protection is covered across all regions of Cambodia. The ceremony is attended by senior officials, who also plant trees (only after King finishes) and representatives of non-governmental organizations, students and local residents.
King Norodom Sihamoni is not the only person who plants trees in Cambodia on Arbor Day. The seedlings are distributed among numerous nature care organizations and schools. Many people participate in celebration of this event and annually over 20,000 trees are planted in all regions of Cambodia.
