Glass Industry Workers' Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: November 19, 2016

Glass Industry Workers' Day in Ukraine Glass Industry Workers' Day is observed in Ukraine every year on November 19. This professional day was created by the presidential decree in 2003.

People employed in the glass industry play an important role in the production of the goods and items we use every day. There would be no bottles, crockery, windows and lamps without the glass. Assuming the importance of this work then-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma established Glass Industry Workers' Day in 2003. The first celebration among the workers of the industry took place in 2004.

This professional day is annually observed on November 19 to commemorate the birthday of a Russian polymath, scientist and writer Mikail Lomonosov. He started production of glaze, glass, porcelain and created the first technology of production of the colored glass outside Italy. Later his experiments with the colored glass restored the ancient art of mosaics.

Russian employees of the glass industry also celebrate their professional day on November 19. Unlike in Ukraine, it's not an official holiday.
