Glass Industry Workers’ Day is annually observed on November 19 to commemorate the birthday of a Russian polymath, scientist and writer Mikhail Lomonosov. He started the production of glaze, glass, porcelain in Russia, as well as set up the first factory producing glass mosaics outside Italy. Lomonosov is also credited with creating the theoretical background of class industry; before this, the glass industry had been purely empirical and, therefore, the quality of the finished products had been inconsistent.
