6 Beauty Benefits of Aloe Butter (and How to Make It Yourself)

6 Beauty Benefits of Aloe Butter (and How to Make It Yourself)Both aloe vera and coconut oil are known and valued for their skin and hair benefits. And when you mix these two ingredients together, you get aloe butter that has twice the benefits! Let’s learn more about the useful properties of aloe butter and figure out how you can do it at home.

Aloe butter is an extract of aloe vera leaves mixed with coconut oil (or coconut oil infused with aloe vera leaf extract). Like coconut oil, it is semi solid at room temperature and melts on contact with the skin. Aloe butter contains all the key properties of both its constituents; it moisturizes, nourishes and soothes the skin. So, what are its greatest beauty benefits?

It Is an Excellent Moisturizer

Aloe vera is a good source of moisture, so it rapidly hydrates even very dry, chapped and flaky skin. Coconut oil – thanks to its high content of unsaturated fats – locks in this moisture, creating an invisible protective barrier that keeps your skin from getting dehydrated.

It Has Healing Properties

Both coconut oil and aloe butter have soothing, restorative, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes aloe butter a great treatment for a number of skin conditions, including psoriasis, eczema, rosacea and sunburns. It relieves itching and flaking, speeds up the healing process, and helps protect the skin from harmful environmental factors that can aggravate the condition.

It Is Suitable for Baby Skincare

Since aloe butter is composed of natural and hypoallergenic ingredients, it can be used to take care of delicate baby skin. This product is great for treating cradle cap (dry scalp), diaper rash, and baby acne. You can use aloe butter as a moisturizing body lotion and as a natural oil for baby massage.

It Can Be Added to Off-the-Shelf Beauty Products

If you’re not a fan of applying pure oils to your skin and hair, you can add a small amount of aloe butter to your off-the-shelf beauty products to enrich them. It can be mixed with creams, lotions, hair conditioners, hair masks, and other products.

It Can Be Used as a Lip Balm

Aloe butter can be a real lifesaver for those suffering from dry and chapped lips. Coconut oil actively moisturizes and nourishes the lips, keeps them hydrated and protected, while aloe vera leaf juice soothes the lips and makes them heal faster. As a result, your lips remain soft, smooth and supple at all times.

It Is a Great Treatment for Split Ends

If you suffer from split ends, try applying aloe butter to your hair tips. It will prevent dehydration and protect your hair from the environment, preventing brittleness. Of course, you should get your hair trimmed first, because no product is going to make split ends whole again; they need to be cut off.

How to Make Aloe Butter

You can easily buy aloe butter online, but if you’re a fan of DIY skincare products, you can make it at home. You’ll need pure, unrefined coconut oil and at least 97 percent pure aloe vera gel. Aloe gel with a big percentage of additional ingredients isn’t the best choice, but you shouldn’t use 100 percent pure aloe vera gel either. The small amount of preservatives contained in the minimally processed version of the product will prolong the shelf life of your final product.

Weigh out 8 oz. of coconut oil and melt it slowly and carefully in a saucepan. When the oil is completely melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and gradually add 8 oz. of aloe vera gel, stirring gently. Once the gel is stirred in, whisk the ingredients together until well-blended. Continue whisking until the butter cools down and starts to resemble a thick custard. Once the butter is completely cooled, transfer it into small jars.
