The Bremen Christmas market is a popular tourist destination in Germany. It is held in the Bremer Marktplatz (Market Square). The market features more than 170 beautifully decorated stalls and booths offering handicrafts made by local artisans, Christmas decorations, handmade candles, woolen clothes and accessories, and more. Here you can find unique Christmas gifts for your friends and family, buy lovely souvenirs that will remind you of your Christmas vacation, and taste local delicacies.
The market traditionally opens with a festive ceremony featuring the city mayor and other local officials. The ceremony is held in front of the Bremen Cathedral and the city's town hall. The market begins in late November and lasts for about a month (until Christmas eve). Alongside Christmas goods and treats, it offers a rich and diverse entertainment program featuring fairground rides, live performances by local musicians, singers, dancers and choirs, various activities for kids, and a fascinating light show with spectacular projections on the facade of the Bremen Cathedral.
Although the Old Town Christmas market in Bremen is the city's most popular Christmas market, it's not the only one. The Schlachte Zauber Christmas market takes palace along the embankment of the Weser, it's a historical market noted for its maritime atmosphere. This market invites to enjoy a mug of hot punch in the company of Sinterklaas (Dutch Santa Claus) aboard a pirate ship, have a traditional Christmas brunch, sample delicious fish and seafood dishes, have some spicy mulled wine, and listen to beautiful Christmas carols.
