The capital of the United Kingdom hosts plenty of Christmas markets held throughout the city, but its main Christmastime attraction is Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. For six weeks, London’s famous Hyde Park is transformed into a magical wonderland of winter festivities free for everyone to attend. What started as an open-air ice rink in Hyde Park, has grown to become London’s ultimate tourist attraction during the Christmas season.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is an annual festival dedicated to winter and Christmas. It offers a spectacular array of festive activities and entertainment for visitors of all ages. The festival was founded in 2007 as a skating rink and a series of Christmas markets. Today, Winter Wonderland features the largest outdoor ice rink in the United Kingdom, world-class shows, spectacular fairground rides and attractions, and German-style Christmas markets.

Winter Wonderland features over 100 festive rides. Some of the festival’s biggest attractions are very popular, so the organizers recommend that you book them ahead. Major attractions at Winter Wonderland include a large ice rink bedecked with thousands of Christmas lights, the Magical Ice Kingdom, The Nutcracker on Ice (an ice dancing show introduced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Winter Wonderland), Bar Ice where everything is made of ice, jaw-dropping circus shows Zippos Christmas Circus and Cirque Berserk, a 60-meter Giant Observation Wheel, and The Sooty Christmas Show.

Hyde Park Winder Wonderland is famous for its Christmas markets featuring over 200 Bavarian style wooden chalets which offer beautiful gifts and souvenirs, clothing and accessories, handicrafts and jewelry, traditional Christmas decorations and delicious treats. Food stalls offer signature English take-out dish fish and chips, traditional German dishes from the Bavarian Village (sausages, pretzels, etc.). You can warm up with delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows, mulled wine or hot cider.

Other events and attractions hosted by London’s main winter festival include live music, games and contests, the Fire Pit, numerous bars, restaurants and food stalls, and more. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland opens in mid-November and runs through early January. It is open from 10 am to 10 pm every day except for Christmas Day when the event is closed.
