It all started back in 1988, when New York opened its national cheese museum. Senator of Wisconsin stated that Wisconsin, known around the country as the Dairy State, should have this museum, since it produces the best cheese in the USA. Senator of New York suggested holding a “cheese off” in New York and it showed that the New York cheese was the best. Wisconsin decided to have its own “cheese off” at its first Cheese Festival and it showed that the Wisconsin Cheese was the best! None of the senators was satisfied, that’s why the third blind contest was held and it was broadcast on the national TV. And that blind contest stated that the Wisconsin cheese was the best, thus this state should have the national cheese museum. Apart from the blind cheese tasting, the very first Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival itself also received national attention, because it was broadcast, too!
The Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival is celebrated annually in Little Chute at local Doyle Park. The celebration lasts for three days and it’s full of different events for the whole family. There are music concerts, Cheddar Chase Walk, cheese carving, food booths, carnival rides, cheese tasting, cheese curd eating contest and Big Cheese Breakfast.
Big Cheese Breakfast is well known among lovers of the best cheese ever. It’s always held on the Sunday morning, and anyone can participate. For $7 (adults) and $3 (children from 4 to 12) only you get a very delicious festival breakfast. There are pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage, applesauce, coffee, milk and orange juice on the menu.
