Day of Preschool Employees in Russia Date in the current year: September 27, 2024

Day of Preschool Employees in Russia The Day of Preschool Employees is a Russian professional holiday celebrated on September 27. Although it has not been officially established by a presidential decree, the observance is supported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

The idea of celebrating the Day of Preschool Employees was first voiced by several nationwide pedagogical periodicals in 2004. The initiative gained support from many educators, preschool teachers and other employees, and parents. The first celebration took place on September 27, 2004.

Such a date was chosen to commemorate the opening of the first kindergarten in Russia. Russia's first preschool educational institution was opened in 1863 by Sophia Lugebil, the wife of famous philologist, educator, and professor Karl Lugebil. It was located at Vasilyevsky Island in Saint Petersburg.

The Day of Preschool Employees aims at recognizing the contributions of preschool employees to the country's educational system and raising awareness of important preschool education issues. It is not celebrated as widely as Teacher's Day, but the Ministry of Education does its best to promote the holiday. On their professional holiday, preschool employees are congratulated by local authorities, colleagues, parents, and, of course, preschoolers.
