Princess Marie (née Marie Cavallier) is the second wife of Prince Joachim. She was born in Paris on February 6, 1976 to Alain Cavallier and Françoise Grassiot. When her parents divorced, she moved to Switzerland with her mother.
Marie studied economics in the USA and Switzerland. During her years in college, she worked for Estée Lauder and ING Numismatic Group SA. After graduation, she worked in advertizing in the US, France, and Switzerland.
Prince Joachim of Denmark separated from his first wife in September 2004. The couple divorced in April 2005, and in August 2005 he was first spotted with Marie in Avignon, France. They celebrated the New Year 2006/2007 together. In 2007, Marie was introduced to Queen Margrethe II during the Easter celebration at Marselisborg Palace, the Queen's summer residence.
