World Migratory Bird Day Date in the current year: May 11, 2024

World Migratory Bird Day World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is an annual awareness campaign held on the second weekend in May. It is supported by the United Nations Environment Program as well as a number of international organizations.

Migration of birds is the regular seasonal movement between breeding and wintering grounds. Many bird species migrate, driven primarily by availability of good. Human activity threatens the habitat of migratory birds, putting them in danger.

WMBD was established in 2006 in order to raise awareness about the importance of the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. This global event is supposed to connect different countries throughout the world and bring together wildlife conservation organizations, just like migratory birds connect them with their migration paths.

Every year, a new theme of the day is chosen. Participants are encouraged to organize events and activities that would emphasize the current years' theme and promote the awareness campaign in general. WMBD events may include but are not limited to educational workshops, bird watching, exhibitions, festivals, media campaigns.

There are no specific guidelines when it comes to holding an event. Promotional materials and the latest news can be found at worldmigratorybirdday.org.
