In 1998 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on establishment of National Statistical Committee Worker's Day in Belarus. The day of the holiday was chosen August 23 to coincide with the anniversary of establishment of the Central Bureau of Statistics in Belarus in 1932. This institution had been reorganized many times during the time of its existence.

In 1991, after Belarus gained independence from the Soviet Union, the State Committee of Statistics of the Republic of Belarus was established on the basis of the Belarusian Soviet State Committee. In 1994 it was transformed into the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis and finally into the National Statistical Committee in 2008.

National Statistical Committee Worker's Day is a holiday for all people, who are employed by the committee. They accept congratulations from authorities and officials. The most distinguished workers are awarded with prizes.
