International Every Girl Wins Day Date in the current year: March 13, 2026

International Every Girl Wins Day International Every Girl Wins Day (IEGWD) is celebrated annually on March 13. The day aims to draw attention to the right of all women to freedom and equity, bringing together all stakeholders in the fight for these rights.

In some countries, women can receive quality medical care and education, build successful careers, and achieve success on an equal, or almost equal, footing with men. They are also free to choose their marriage partners and make decisions about marriage and having children. In other countries, however, women are often denied access to education and quality medical care. They also have limited access to the labor market and are sometimes forced into early arranged marriages.

For example, a study conducted by the World Bank assessed gender discrimination in 187 UN member states and found that only six of them received full marks across eight indicators, ranging from freedom of movement to access to a pension, which shape the economic decisions women make throughout their working lives. In a typical economy, women are granted only about three-quarters of the legal rights men are granted in the measured areas.

Another study shows that 33,000 girls under the age of 18 are married off every day, and a total of 650 million women currently living worldwide were child brides. The causes of underage marriage vary by community, but it often occurs because girls are valued less than boys, and marrying them off at a young age shifts the “economic burden” to the husband’s family.

International Every Girl Wins Day (IEGWD) was founded in 2019 by Every Girl Wins Institute, a global organization that focuses on life literacy and empowering young women and girls through personal and professional development. The Institute provides the education, coaching and resources young women and girls need to learn important life skills, cope with challenges, and lead successful personal and professional lives.

The main goal of IEGWD is to advocate for women around the globe to have access to education, healthcare, economic, and entrepreneurship literacy. The campaign aims to educate the public about issues such as equal pay, reproductive rights, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence. It also aims to inspire the world to accept all women as equals and work together to achieve legal and systemic changes that address “Her Right” to equity and will help create a more just and equitable society for all women.

International Every Girl Wins Day should not be confused with International Girls Day or the International Day of the Girl Child. Celebrated on November 14, International Girls Day was created by Kappa Delta sorority to encourage girls to be themselves and pursue their interests and goals. The International Day of the Girl Child is a United Nations observance held on October 11. It was created to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by girls and young women, ranging from limited access to education to teenage pregnancy and child marriag, and promote the rights of girls worldwide.
