Tick Tock Day / Still Need to Do Day Date in the current year: December 29, 2024

Tick Tock Day / Still Need to Do Day The end of the year is a hectic time because there is so much to do and it’s so easy to forget something in the whirlwind of last-minute tasks and errands. December 29 is the day when you can take a pause, reassess your to-do list, and get around to completing the tasks you’ve been putting off for some time. It is known as Tick Tock Day or Still Need to Do Day.

Tick Tock Day and Still Need to Do Day are technically two different holidays but they have the same purpose to encourage people to complete unfinished tasks before the new year begins. Tick Tock Day is the invention of American actor Thomas Roy and his wife Ruth. Thomas and Ruth have created several dozen holidays and special days that are listed in Chase’s Calendar of Events and on their website Wellcat Holidays. They came up with Tick Tock Day to remind people that the clock is ticking and there are still things to do before the end of the year. The origins of Still Need to Do Day are unclear, but the meaning behind the holiday is the same.

Regardless of which name you prefer, December 29 is a great day to go through your to-do list and see how many items you can check off of it before the end of the year or cross off from the list entirely because they are not as important as they used to seem. It offers you an opportunity to tie up any loose ends and begin the new year with a clean slate.

However, you shouldn’t overdo it: no one wants to go into the new year exhausted and desperate for rest. Tick Tock Day / Still Need to Do Day isn’t about completing as many tasks as possible no matter what; it’s about choosing your priorities and realizing what’s really important and what is not a priority right now or at all.

If you’re not sure what tasks you need to complete before December 31, here are a few suggestions. These tasks are not big, but they may leave you with a sense of accomplishment, which is exactly what many people need at the end of the year.

  • Use various bonuses that will be lost if you don’t use them by the end of the year.
  • Finish reading that book. You know exactly which one we’re talking about.
  • Schedule the next routine medical checkup for yourself, your kids, and your pets.
  • Update all software on your computer, smartphone, tablet, and other devices.
  • Start planning your next vacation (remember that you don’t have to book anything yet).
  • Donate to charities so that you can claim these donations on your tax return for the year.
  • Try to repair broken relationships that you consider worth saving or rekindle old friendships. Of course, reconciliation is a lengthy process, but today is a great day to take the first step and reach out.
  • If you’ve been thinking about learning a new skill, book your first lesson.
  • Let go of any regrets you might have.

Remember that this list is just an inspiration. The idea behind Tick Tock Day / Still Need to Do Day is to complete the tasks that YOU consider important, however small and insignificant they might seem to others. Whatever you choose to do today, don’t forget to share your accomplishments and spread the word about the holiday with the hashtags #TickTockDay and #StillNeedToDoDay.
