National Tree Festival in Tunisia The Tunisians annually celebrate National Tree Festival on the second Sunday in November. The government of Tunisia prepares a special program, that is implemented in cooperation with non-governmental institutions.

Tunisia, as many countries of the African continent, suffers the problem of deforestation, which is one of the major environmental issues in the state. The government of Tunisia started take certain actions towards restoration of the tree plantations recently relatively. For instance, the government developed a long running program of afforestation, running from 2007. According to this program, 16% of the territory of Tunisia must be covered with trees plantations till 2020.

All Tunisians are annually encouraged to participate in the trees planting events, that are organized across different regions of the country. Celebration of National Tree Festival isn't only about planting trees, the participants also learn about the importance of the trees for protection of soil from erosion, and the ways how to take care of newly planted trees.
