Science Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: May 18, 2024
The history of modern Ukrainian science begins in the 17th century, when the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was founded. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1918 by renowned scientist Vladimir Vernadsky.
Science Day, also known as Day of Science or Day of Ukrainian Science, is a nationwide celebration of science, which is observed as a professional holiday of scientists and scientific workers. It is marked with ceremonial meetings and public speeches in scientific and educational institutions throughout the country.
Science Day activities and events include but are no limited to science project demonstrations, scientific conferences, competitions, debates, discussions, lectures, presentations. In many universities and institutes, prizes and certificates are awarded to scientists and students who have demonstrated high achievements or won scientific contests.
Currently, Ukrainian science is going through hard times due to lack of funding. Nevertheless, the country's scientists do their best under the circumstances and surely deserve appreciation.
