Diplomatic Service Day in Ukraine December 22 is Diplomatic Service Day in Ukraine. This holiday was established in 2005 by President Viktor Yushchenko. It is the professional holiday of all Ukrainian diplomats and employees of the country's diplomatic missions, embassies, and consulates.

Ukrainian Diplomatic Service Day was established to recognize the role of the country's diplomatic employees in maintaining peaceful and mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and the international community, ensuring national interests and security of Ukraine, and protecting the rights and interests of citizens and legal entities of Ukraine abroad.

The date of December 22 was chosen to commemorate the establishment of the General Secretariat of International Affairs in the short-lived Ukrainian People's Republic in 1917. The Secretariat is regarded as the forerunner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Today's Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was formed in 1990 on the basis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR. Currently it employs over two thousand people.

Ukraine has diplomatic relations with many nations. They are guided by the country's foreign policy. One of the strategic goals of Ukraine's foreign policy is European integration.
