Prosecutors’ Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: December 1, 2024

Prosecutors’ Day in Ukraine Prosecutors' Day is celebrated in Ukraine annually on December 1. This professional day was instituted by Presidential Decree in 2000 in order to acknowledge the important role that the Ukrainian prosecutors play in the protection of human rights and their contributions to the formation of the legislative state.

It's believed, that the legislative system of Ukraine started its formation in the 16th century. In 1587 the general sejm of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (at that time the territory of Ukraine belonged to it) decided to form the Lutsk Tribunal, that became the first superior court in Ukraine. The Tribunal was formed in 1588 and the deputies started annually to elect the prosecutor, whose duty was supervision of the order of the presentation of claims in the court.

The present-day Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine was created on December 1, 1991 after declaration of independence from the Soviet Union. Celebration of Prosecutors' Day commemorates this important date.
