Day of Fire Service in Russia Date in the current year: April 30, 2024

Day of Fire Service in Russia Day of Fire Service in Russia is celebrated on April 30. It is an official professional day that was established in 1999 and has been celebrated each year ever since.

The date April 30 was chosen because on this day in 1649 Tsar Alexis I of Russia (Aleksey Mikhailovich) issued a decree establishing a strict order of extinguishing fore in Moscow. This decree is considered to be the beginning of the history of fire control in the country.

Russian State Fire Service in its modern form was established shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. General legal, social and economic foundations of fire safety were provided by federal law “On fire control” adopted in 1994. Originally the fire service was part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but in 2001 it was reorganized and became part of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The State Fire Service of Russian Federation consists of two major divisions, the Federal Fire Service and the Fire Services of the Federal Subjects of Russia. Its scientific support is carried out by the Institute for Fire Defense and Scientific Research.
