Financial Investigation Authorities Foundation Anniversary in Belarus Date in the current year: August 5, 2024

The history of the financial investigation authorities of the Republic of Belarus began on August 5, 1992, when the Tax Investigation Department was created in the State Tax Office of the Ministry of Finance. This date is considered the birthday of the country’s financial investigation authorities. Four years later, the department was entrusted with inquiry functions, and in 1994, it received the right to carry out law enforcement intelligence operations.

In 1998, the Tax Investigation Department was transformed into the State Financial Investigation Committee of the Republic of Belarus. In 2001, the National Assembly of Belarus passed the law “On the Financial Investigation Authorities of the Republic of Belarus”, which regulated the work of the country’s financial investigation bodies. Four months later, the Financial Investigation Committee was transferred to the jurisdiction of the State Control Committee and was subsequently transformed into the Financial Investigations Department of the State Control Committee.

The main function of the Financial Investigations Department is to ensure the economic security of the state. It protects the interests of society and the state from economic offenses, carries out the prevention and detection of administrative offenses and crimes in the economic sphere (including corruption), carries out inquiries in criminal cases, and conducts administrative proceedings within its competence.

The Department also carries out international activities as part of the Coordination Council of the Heads of Tax (Financial) Investigation Authorities of the CIS Member States and within the framework of existing international agreements and treaties.

The structure of the financial investigation authorities system of the Republic of Belarus includes the Financial Investigations Department as the central body and regional directorates in the six regions of Belarus and the city of Minsk, which, in turn, include inter-district departments.

Financial Investigation Authorities Foundation Anniversary was established to highlight the importance of the Financial Investigations Department for the country’s economic security. On August 5, all subdivisions of the Financial Investigations Department organize special events to celebrate and reward employees who have distinguished themselves, as well as to honor veterans (the department even has its own veteran organization).
